MARGARET WISE BROWN (1910-1952), best-known as the author of Goodnight Moon, wrote countless children's books inspired by her belief that the very young were fascinated by the simple pleasures of the world around them. Among her many bestselling Golden titles are The Sailor Dog, The Color Kittens, Mister Dog, Seven Little Postmen, and Home For A Bunny. Leonard Weisgard (1916-2000) frequently collaborated with his close friend Margaret Wise Brown. He was awarded the 1947 Caldecott Medal for The Little Island (Doubleday), written by Margaret Wise Brown under the pseudonym Golden MacDonald. That same year, Alvin Tresselt's Rain Drop Splash (Lothrop), also illustrated by Weisgard, was named a Caldecott Honor Book.
