JANETTE SEBRING LOWREY (1892-1986) wrote mostly teen fiction during the 1940s and 1950s. Her young adult novel Margaret was adapted into a TV serial, Walt Disney Presents- Annette, which aired on The Mickey Mouse Club in 1958, starring Annette Funicello. But Lowrey is best known as the author of The Poky Little Puppy, the bestselling picture book of all time (18 million copies). GUSTAF TENGGREN (1896-1970) immigrated to the United States from Sweden in 1920. Before he was known as a prolific Golden Books illustrator, he'd painted concept artwork for the Disney Studio, creating key characters and lush scenes from the films Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, and Bambi. Some of the most beloved Little Golden Books of all time-including The Saggy Baggy Elephant, Tawny Scrawny Lion, and The Shy Little Kitten-were brought to life by Tenggren.
