Margaret Wise Brown(1910-1952), best known as the author ofGoodnight Moon,wrote countless children's books inspired by her belief that the very young are fascinated by the simple pleasures of the world around them. Among her many bestselling books areThe Little Island,The Golden Egg Book,The Color Kittens, andThe Sailor Dog. Edith Thacher Hurd(1910-1997) was an American writer of children's literature. She published 70 books in her lifetime, 50 of which were illustrated by her husband, Clement Hurd. She also collaborated numerous times with fellow author Margaret Wise Brown on books such asSeven Little Postmen, Two Little GardenersandFive Little Firemen. Tibor Gergely (1900-1978) illustrated more than 70 Golden Books. Born in Hungary, he immigrated to the United States in 1939. His long association with Little Golden Books began in 1942-the year of their launch-and continued as long as he lived. He illustrated Tootle, Scuffy the Tugboat, The Great Big Fire Engine Book, The Taxi That Hurried, and many, many others.
