Tibor Gergely (1900-1978) illustrated more than 70 Golden Books. Born in Hungary, he immigrated to the United States in 1939. His long association with Little Golden Books began in 1942-the year of their launch-and continued as long as he lived. He illustrated Tootle, Scuffy the Tugboat, The Great Big Fire Engine Book, The Taxi That Hurried, and many, many others.
