Graham Greene was born in 1904. He worked as a journalist and a critic, and was later employed by the Foreign Office. He died in April 1991.
In 1990 this was bang up to date, even though it was published in the 1970s. Now it seems as dated as flares and tie-dye shirts. Such are the tides of history, but it does allow the reader to discover possibly Greene's best written and most exciting thriller, independent of the liberation theology which he modishly brought to the story.
