Susanna Isern grew up among mountains in the Spanish Pyrenees. When she was little, her favorite hobby was to run around, discovering incredible insects and helping sick or endangered animals. It was then that animals started to whisper her stories, which she hurried to write in the notebook she always carried with her. She is the author of many children's books, most of them distributed internationally and translated into over a dozen languages. She has been awarded the Silver Medal in the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards 2013 in the USA. Leire Salaberria has exhibited her work in different countries around the world. Her work has been selected to appear in Bologna Children's Book Fair 2012 and IV Ibero-American catalog of illustration 2013, 2014. In 2014 she won an Honorable mention at the Sharjah International Book Fair. Since 2011, when she published her first book, she's illustrated several books in Italy, Mexico and Spain.
Cozy burnt orange tones mixed with cool purples and blues bring to life this tale translated from Spanish. The large-eyed anthropomorphic animals are endearing, and the setting seems both snug (inside Squirrel’s home) and vast (outdoor scenes). Readers who are oh-so-eager to please will hopefully take Squirrel’s lesson to heart. A necessary reminder that a little assertiveness can go a long way. (Picture book. 4-7) – Kirkus 'Squirrel Has Trouble Saying No' is a great book to read to school-age children to teach them about setting boundaries and saying no to friends. This book is illustrated by the talented Leire Salaberria, and I adore the beautiful illustrations. From the sweet animals to the enchanting woodland scenes I was drawn into Salaberria's art style. – YA Books Central This is a sweet story and encourages young readers to prioritize and recognize that sometimes you have to set limits. Richly patterned illustrations feature autumn hues and suit the story well – Puget Sound Council for Reviewing Children's and Young Adult Literature.
