Reviews for Princess Jill Never Sits Still

The expressions on the faces of the other characters really shows their exasperation with the wild princess, and I love how vivid the illustrations are. They combine black and white lines with colored-in portions of the art that focus the attention on one aspect of the scene, and the background remains black and white. I just loved the cartoony style. There is a silliness in the art that is perfectly juxtaposed with the elegance of the palace and the elaborate attire of the refined king and queen. Everything about this book is completely adorable!---Books For MKs This tale is told with verve and humor, and shows a happy kingdom with loving parents and a racially diverse populace. The playful caricature-like illustrations reminded me of the French illustrator Sempe, and sure enough, Sempe is listed on the author's website as one of his influences. Ink with watercolors on a spare background keep the eye focused on the princess's antics. From playing music on pots and pans, to tying a witch's hair to the tail of a cat, there are lots of details that will make parents and kids giggle, and hopefully they will recognize that a kid just has to be a kid, princess or not!---Youth Services Book Review With its soft colors and Jill's fluffy blonde hair and all that physicality, this picture book just might provide a good reminder to let youngsters alone as they navigate their physical space and that sitting around quietly might not appeal to everyone.---Goodreads-Barbara Ward Simple watercolor illustrations loosely fill the cream-colored pages with Princess Jill's antics. It's a fun tale of acceptance and unconventional talents that is suitable for storytimes or one-on-one reading.---Booklist
