We have all heard of famous people like Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Cleopatra, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and William Shakespeare. But what do we know about their childhoods?

Play a game and guess which celebrity is hidden on each spread. Clues from their childhood will help you to discover them! There are twenty-five celebrities waiting for you to uncover them. Rulers, inventors, scientists, musicians, and many others lead you through their childhoods and show you what life was like back then, what they liked to play with, and what their interests were - but they will keep their names to themselves. Each character gives hints to help you figure out who they are. Then lift the flap and find out whether you guessed correctly.

Reviews for Childhoods of Famous People

"""Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 5+ What did you like about the book? I think this is a book that children will really enjoy reading because it features some amazing people-when they were children. This book also reads like a guessing game with the first two pages offering bits of information and then a fold-out page revealing the person. There is a wide range of interesting people featured in these pages including Nefertiti, Leonardo da Vinci, Shakespeare, Pocahontas, Isaac Newton, Jane Austen, and the Wright brothers, just to name a few. Each section begins with a brief introduction such as where they live or what they enjoy. Additional information includes their hobbies, what games they played, what they studied in school, and some earlier achievements that led to their success. There are little hints sprinkled about to help the reader figure out the person such as ""Now you surely know which woman became famous due to the perfume she created and named after herself?"" (Coco Chanel) and ""Do you know which famous mime achieved fame in the movie world?""(Charlie Chaplin). The illustrations provided by Tomás Tůma are bright and colorful and offer some important information about these people. This includes some unusual toys used by Nefertiti and Hippocrates, samples of Chinese script used by Li Bai, animal tracks seen by Pocahontas, and how to make a quill pen as used by Jane Austen. Anything you did not like about the book. Nothing To whom would you recommend this book? This book is perfect for children between the ages of five and 10 years old. Younger children might not be familiar with some of these people (therefore the guessing feature might not work), but this book is a great way to introduce them in a simple manner. Who should buy this book? Public and elementary school libraries, anyone who works with children between the ages of five and ten years old. Where would you shelve it? Nonfiction, Biographies Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our ""to read"" piles? Yes"" ―Youth Services Book Review ""This had information that I didn't even know was a history major I found that very enlightening but also fun and entertaining for children as well."" ― Blind Bat Books B, Reviewer ""This was such a good book!! It had 25 famous people that you learn all about their childhoods!! I really loved the colorful pictures!!! With every famous person, you are given a fun activity to do!! I would recommend this to a classroom teacher who needs something extra about one of these famous people, or to a child who wants to know about famous people."" ― Christine R, Educator ""This is a very well done book int hat, little readers can choose to being reading based on what catches their fancy. Pictures help. Kid liked the premise of the book that all famous people were once children too just like them. It is interesting to see, how they would have thought like children of their bright future."" ― reader s, Reviewer"
