Alan Wearne has been writing poetry since at least high school. Best known for his large-scale verse novels and sequences, he has been a major voice in Australian Poetry since the late 1960s when he was, with John Scott and Laurie Duggan, the Monash contingent in the 'Generation of '68'. For eighteen and a half years he taught at the University of Wollongong. Since 2011 he has been the publisher of Grand Parade Poets. Near Believing, his selected monologues and narratives, was published in 2022.
