""By choosing not to capitalize my name, I aim to assert my place in this world as a nêhiyaw. In the dialect of plains cree, spoken where my family comes from, our language isn’t capitalized. Freeing myself from the rules imposed on us through the English language is one way I choose to subtly stand defiant in the face of colonization and forced assimilation.""
