'Game Changer' is the story of one young Aussie tennis player's inspirational journey to redefine success and 'making it' in the most unlikely of places.

Ever since age eleven, Chris Bates, has been in search of success. As one of Australia's best young tennis players, he was constantly confronted by the ever present 'wisdom' of Australian tennis coaches who insisted if you didn't 'make it' by the age of twenty, your career, and your life, was a failure.

In this memoir of heartbreaking losses, injury, financial stress, and recurring heart problems, Bates teeters on the edge of quitting and walking away from the sport he loves so much. His last, desperate throw of the dice rests with his arrival in wind-swept Oklahoma, America's heartland, as a student-athlete. What happens in this time at Oklahoma State University as a Cowboy will go on to change his life forever.

Game Changer is an inspirational, un-put-downable memoir recommended for budding athletes, sporting parents, coaches, educators, and anybody embarking on a US College journey as a student-athlete. With trademark enthusiasm and humour, Bates invites you on a journey through this rollercoaster ride of adventure and self-discovery as he struggles to challenge the status quo of 'making it' and redefine what success truly means.

Chris Bates is a coach, mentor, teacher, and founder of Study & Play USA, a family-run organization that facilitates the entire process for student-athletes right around the world to find their right-fit University opportunity in the US college system. After winning several state and national tennis titles across Australia as a junior, it was fate, he believes, that lead him to Oklahoma State University to take up his own study and play opportunity. Four years later, having become a top one-hundred ranked Division 1 singles player, and top fifteen ranked doubles player, he graduated with a Bachelor of Business in Marketing, worked in Marketing roles in the USA briefly, before returning to his hometown in Australia. Having coached multiple individual state and national tennis champions, Chris achieved success coaching Brisbane Boys' College several times to state team titles and a national title. This ignited a passion for mentoring youngsters which led to a brief teaching career where Chris taught English and Commerce at secondary school level. Study & Play USA eventually pried him away from his teaching career, however, his ability to maintain his role as a mentor within this capacity as Director provides him much gratification. Above all, his greatest joy is reserved for his son, Sidney, his wife, Alexia, and his wider family.
